Beauty Tutorials!

Hey guys! I've been kind of absent from the blog-sphere but I wanted to give you a little update that I am now doing beauty tutorials on YouTube with one of my close friends, Cheryl. I will link all of the ones I've done below but the channel itself is youtube.com/kattcherworld and if you have a g-mail you automatically have a youtube account and if you have a youtube account you should go SUBSCRIBE! Pretty please, cherries on top. I will take requests!
I also wanted to throw out there the idea of turning this into kind of a beauty/fashion/lifestyle blog rather than just my random thoughts- that way I could kind of link the two ventures.. yeah? Let me know what you think.
Anyway, it's late so links below and thank you for watching, subscribing and most of all- your support! xx

June Recap

I can't believe June has come and gone without a peep from me. Mainly because June has been such an epic month for me. My birthday was on the 21 and that was also the day my favorite athlete won his first NBA championship. (I know, pretty good present right?)
This summer has already been filled with BBQ-ing and lazy days by the pool. I had to push back my Seattle trip until September but as it turns out that works better for my bestie that I'll be visiting. Crazy to think that it already July. Here is a little look in the past month or so for me...
My talented little brother Jacob did an impromptu photoshoot of me and Alan.. love the results. Be sure to check him out on FB and like his page: http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/KJ-Photography/277156672299803

favorite things

Every now and then I come to a realization how blessed I am. That happened to me this weekend. While I much prefer this happen in a non-traumatic way I can either way take the opportunity to count my blessings. Because of this weekend I won't be clubbing for awhile.. *pause for gasps* I know.. crazy. However, it could no have come at a better time because summer is coming. The weather has been gorgeous and my spirits have been bright. I decided to post some of my favorite things/blessings in hopes to brighten yours as well. The list is in no particular order just thoughts.
1. Travel. I have not done as much travelling the past year as I usually do however I have many upcoming travel plans. I love to look on the wonders of the earth and just think how beautiful it is. Hippie, I know.

2. Farmers markets. It's beginning to be the season of farmers markets. I love the crafts, the fresh produce and the atmosphere. It is so relaxing to just stroll and look at things.

3. Ok, let's be real it's the playoffs you didn't think Bron would make the list? I love watching him play- so exciting! And tomorrow he is being awarded his 3rd MVP in only 4 seasons. BEAST. I think this will be the year he finally gets a ring (wins the finals) and I am going to have a huge celebration.

4. My crew. I am honestly so blessed to have the friends that I have. They honestly love me so much and I love them like family. This weekend was yet again a reminder of how lucky I am to have such amazing friends. Lizette, Steph, Alan, D, Cheryl, Gladys, Dawny and anyone I may be missing- love you all! Special shout out to Steph for being my roomie shortly/having such a similar life/so much in common that we can talk about ANYTHING and to Alan for being amazing and making me happier than I've been in a long time. It's funny how you don't know you're missing anything until you find something so great.
<3
5. Brunch. Every time I watch Gossip Girl I have the desire to start brunching on a regular basis. I think this summer is the perfect time to start this tradition.

6. Crafting/Decorating/Nesting. I love crafts and the warm weather and easy days of summer make it easy to get in some serious work. New apartments are also made for decorating.

7. Sundresses. I love dressing for summer. By summer's end I know I'll be excited to layer more again but for now I'm dying to throw something effortless on.

8. How I met you mother. Hilarious. Enough said.

9. Dancing/Going out. I had a realization today that, while I want to take a long break from the club scene, I shouldn't let something/someone taint something I enjoy so much so in time this will be me again:
get it girl.

Kat

some inspirational motivation (:

So my little brother asked for help writing a speech on how attitude affects leadership and sent me what he had written so far and asked me to edit/add to it. Well, anyone who knows me knows I love writing paper and I am known to be pretty motivational from time to time. Since today is a kind of gloomy Monday I thought I would share the inspirational message. Enjoy! :)

One thing that can shape ones attitude is the circumstances you go through in life. Having to face many trials could cause you to want to give up, to be a quitter and jaded against the world. I have been fortunate enough to have the quite opposite example of handling adversity in my father.
My father had a rough upbringing. He and his family were torn apart by alcoholism of his father. The abuses of this addiction eventually lead to the divorce of his mother and father in the early seventies. To make life even more challenging, my father not only had to deal with this divorce but his mother had to work 2 jobs which lead to him having to raise his sister when he was only 14 years of age.
My father often tells me that he had to grow up real quick due to many responsibilities placed upon him at an early age. On top of all these things going on in his life, he had to deal with the challenges that life dishes out living in The Bronx. Many times there were temptations to do a lot of things that would have made him a much different man than he is today.
Rather than giving into a bad attitude and lifestyle, he chose to do things that would eventually make him a successful person. He remained steadfast in school, took all honor classes and graduated in the top 5% of his senior class of 1000+ students. He stayed active in sports by playing with his friends after school and because took his sister with him wherever he went, he had to make sure that everyone kept the language clean and behaved right. Those around him took notice of his positive attitude and good ethics but still he had to work for everything he got.
After high school, he went on to college but he had to work and go to school full time. This became a very hard thing to do so he joined the military, The United States Marine Corps to get money for his education. My Dad tells me that this was just the “punch in the arm” he needed to help him further grow and develop. He joined an organization that helped improve his attitude on life with special emphasis on morality. This new organization helped bring new focus and direction which also lead him to meet my mother which was the second most important thing that molded his character into the man he is today.
The challenges were not over yet as family life and life itself does not stop. Military life, though shaping his character and giving him opportunity to use his go-getter attitude to gain leadership roles, brought many difficulties. The most challenging of that was the separation from my mother. To this day, they both cherish the letters they wrote to each other.
They were optimistic and courageous in the face of war and they knew that one day they would be back together. My mother had a complication with a miscarriage that caused her to look death in the face as my father was doing everyday while he was in war but rather than feeling sorry for themselves they held fast to love and hope. To this day, my father tells me that this war was very hard on him as he did not know if he would be coming back home but he worked hard to keep his mind off of it and before you know it, he was home in the arms his wife and children.
Now, my father has a Pituitary Tumor and this is his next battle in life. Life never stops- we must keep going and not give up. His favorite quote is: Never, never, never Give Up…Winston Churchill. Watching his attitude remain positive and his faith strong has helped me to understand that in order to become successful in life- to become a leader worth following, I too need to keep my attitude in check. It is far easier to grumble and complain than to use the trial at hand as motivation to not only fix the problem, but grow as a person as well.
“You control how you feel and act every moment of every day. Once you accept that responsibility, you have control over your life.” Oftentimes life can become overwhelming. In these times, a leader with a determined attitude shines. I strive to become a leader everyday by choosing what I feel is right and standing up for what I believe in. If I was to give up every time someone disagreed with me, every time the going gets rough I would never be able to accomplish the things I desire to in my personal life.
You can choose to be a leader by choosing to take control over something that you will always have power over- your mind. We may not be able to control the world around us but we can choose to control how these things affect our attitude. By remaining strong, others will take notice of you and be drawn to you. They will want to become better because of you, and seek your guidance in having the same bright outlook. This is how you can use your attitude to become a leader.

moving {again}

I hate moving.
I'll say it again because the once is not enough- I hate moving. However I'm also extremely picky about where I live. Because of this I've managed to move not once, not twice, but three times in the past one year alone. And tonight/tomorrow/Friday (whenever I end up getting around to it) I'm moving yet again.
This will be the first time I have lived entirely alone (besides my dog, who is ferocious if you're reading this thinking about breaking in) and I'm equal parts nervous and excited. Nervous because I have watched waaaaay too many crime shows and happen to have a photographic memory (yes I know stuff like that rarely if ever happens here but what can ya do).
And although I'm very excited about the location, the place and living alone I'm so unmotivated to pack/move that I can start moving in today and haven't packed like, at all. Uggghhhhh.
Once I get settled I'll share some pics of the new place- can't wait to get all organized/decorated/settled. I was not wise when I moved a couple months ago and pretty much threw away the majority of my dishes/furniture/silverware anything I wasn't in love with really. It's kind of nice to start all the way over and do it how I want and also kind of a hassle. Yikes so much to do!! Pray for me :O

let's talk sports, and laugh at Kobe.

So if you know anything about me you probably realize I'm a big time sports fan. Let's get more specific- I'm a huuuuuge LeBron James fan. I love watching him play and I love a good Cinderella story so I find his rough upbringing into world class athlete story touching. My little brother loves me a lot and photo shopped the above picture of me and Bron Bron. I know, adorable right? It's pretty much my new fav picture ever.

As much as I love LeBron, I hate a couple of players.

#1 Dirk Nowitzki. I know you are probably thinking it's because Dallas beat out Miami in the finals last year but really it's because he is annoying to watch fake fouls because he is 7 feet tall. Like really 6'3 D-Wade did not knock you flat on the ground- you are enormous. Kind of like your giant teeth. They bug me too. Let's keep it real he are pretty creepy looking.

#2 Kobe. I'm not going to lie he is really, really good. But that makes it even more annoying when he acts all entitled when he gets fouled like, "you dared touch Kobe." Homeboy if you don't want any contact maybe you should have been a ballerina. Just saying. And I know you are athletic enough that when you do fall/get pushed that you can get off the ground by yourself but no, you have to wait for someone to help you up. Awful. And yes he scores a lot of buckets but hello he shoots a TON. Like that little 40 point streak- yeah that was taking a lot of shots to get there. LeBron was putting up high 30's with half the number of shots. Anyway, I wanted to share a video a friend showed me making fun of Kobe after getting swept by Dallas last year. (It shows Dirk too but doesn't clown on him, bummer.) It is important you watch so you will understand why inevitably I'm going to be saying "Cut. Outta here," a lot. It is hilarious but I will warn you drops some F words in the last few seconds so if that offends you I would close out before the last 15 seconds or so. Enjoy. xx
